Amos 7:10-17

10Then Amaziʹah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboʹam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words.
11For thus Amos has said, ‘Jeroboʹam shall die by the sword, and Israel must go into exile away from his land.’ ”
12And Amaziʹah said to Amos, “O seer, go, flee away to the land of Judah, and eat bread there, and prophesy there;
13but never again prophesy at Bethel, for it is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”
14Then Amos answered Amaziʹah, “I am no prophet, nor a prophet’s son; but I am a herdsman, and a dresser of sycamore trees,
15and the LORD took me from following the flock, and the LORD said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’
16“Now therefore hear the word of the LORD. You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not preach against the house of Isaac.’
17Therefore thus says the LORD: ‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your land shall be parceled out by line; you yourself shall die in an unclean land, and Israel shall surely go into exile away from its land.’ ”

Responsorial Psalm

Psalms 19:8-11

7The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
8the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever; the ordinances of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
10More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.

Gospel

Matthew 9:1-8

1And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city.
2And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.”
3And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.”
4But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?
5For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?
6But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—“Rise, take up your bed and go home.”
7And he rose and went home.
8When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

Romans 8:31-39

31What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us?
32He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, will he not also give us all things with him?
33Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies;
34who is to condemn? Is it Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us?
35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36As it is written, “For thy sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalms 124:2-5, 7-8

2if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us,
3then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us;
4then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us;
5then over us would have gone the raging waters.
7We have escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped!
8Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Gospel

Matthew 24:4-13

4And Jesus answered them, “Take heed that no one leads you astray.
5For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray.
6And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet.
7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places:
8all this is but the beginning of the sufferings.
9“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake.
10And then many will fall away, and betray one another, and hate one another.
11And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.
12And because wickedness is multiplied, most men’s love will grow cold.
13But he who endures to the end will be saved.
