Acts 28:16-20, 30-31
16And when we came into Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier that guarded him.
17After three days he called together the local leaders of the Jews; and when they had gathered, he said to them, “Brethren, though I had done nothing against the people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans.
18When they had examined me, they wished to set me at liberty, because there was no reason for the death penalty in my case.
19But when the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar—though I had no charge to bring against my nation.
20For this reason therefore I have asked to see you and speak with you, since it is because of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.”
30And he lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed all who came to him,
31preaching the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ quite openly and unhindered.

Psalms 11:4, 5, 7
4The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’s throne is in heaven; his eyes behold, his eyelids test, the children of men.
5The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked, and his soul hates him that loves violence.

Gospel
John 21:20-25
20Peter turned and saw following them the disciple whom Jesus loved, who had lain close to his breast at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?”
21When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”
22Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!”
23The saying spread abroad among the brethren that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?”
24This is the disciple who is bearing witness to these things, and who has written these things; and we know that his testimony is true.
25But there are also many other things which Jesus did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
First Reading
Philippians 4:4-9
4Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
5Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand.
6Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

John 17:20-26
20“I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word,
21that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,
23I in them and thou in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me.
24Father, I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am, to behold my glory which thou hast given me in thy love for me before the foundation of the world.
25O righteous Father, the world has not known thee, but I have known thee; and these know that thou hast sent me.
26I made known to them thy name, and I will make it known, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
